Take your time with the checklist, it will save you a lot of stress and always give you an overview of the current status of your personal planning. The right planning is the best way to ensure a successful wedding that you will remember for a lifetime.
The preparations for happiness together are exciting. To make sure you don’t forget anything, you will find a comprehensive checklist to tick off below.
Nine to six months before the wedding:
- Set date and framework
- Required papers to obtain the
- To be able to order the order (3 months in advance)
- Define a cost plan
Six months before:
- Put together a preliminary guest list
- If you are also getting married in church: Fix the date with the priest
- Choose your witnesses and invite them (remember the necessary papers)
- Put together the exact calendar of festivities (with bachelorette party, reception, etc.)
- Find the right restaurant and allow yourself a test meal
- Book the music for your wedding
- Organize the right coach/oldtimer etc.
- Find a good photographer
- Start planning the honeymoon
- Hire a showmaster/master of ceremonies for the colorful evening and the organization of the celebration
Four to five months beforehand:
- Choose the wedding dress (also think about accessories such as veil, shoes, bag)
- Choose a suit for yourself, groom-to-be
- Put together the gift list and the wedding table
- Apply to your employer for (special) leave
- Book your honeymoon
Three months in advance:
- Select the wedding rings
- Order the list
- Check the guest list again
- Set up the gift lists
- Book the hotel room or hotel suite for the wedding night
- Have the wedding stationery printed: invitation cards, place cards, menu cards, thank you cards etc.
- Select a nursery/florist
- Start preparing for the move
- Reserve overnight accommodation for out-of-town guests
- Check all papers
- Would you like to conclude a prenuptial agreement?
Two months before:
- Talk to the priest about the exact order of the ceremony and the music in the church
- Send out all invitations (enclose reply cards and timetable)
- Talk through the wedding photos and reportage with your photographer
- Think about necessary vaccinations if your honeymoon is overseas
Five weeks before:
- Pick up the wedding rings
- Make a detailed organization plan
Consult with all task owners - Plan the guest transportation
- Organize the hen party
- Discuss the menu sequence and the room decorations in the restaurant
- Have your hairdresser do a trial hairstyle for you and set a date for the wedding day with them
- Make an appointment with your beautician and try out the make-up
- Order the flowers for the wedding reception (bridal bouquet, church decorations, restaurant, flower children, corsages)
- Order the wedding cake
- Buy a guestbook
Two weeks before:
- Try on the wedding dress again with all the accessories
- Prepare the wedding announcement
- Check the guest list based on the responses received
- Determine the seating arrangements
- Start making travel arrangements for your honeymoon
- Break in your shoes
- Drive the route from the registry office to the church again
- Arrange a hairdressing appointment for the groom
One week before the wedding:
- Pack your bags for the honeymoon
- Shop for the guest reception
- Enjoy the wedding reception (not the day before)
- Get small change for flower and gift carriers
- Pack the handbag for the bride (don’t forget a spare pair of tights!)
- Get the rings and papers ready
After the wedding:
- Do a final check after the honeymoon
- Send the thank you cards
- Enjoy (gifts of money, for example, for a kitchen or bedroom as a start to married life
